Location:Watford, UK
Occupation:paper shuffler
Biography:
1969 born, aged 0, here - http://www.peterborough.net/media/advertorial/wsthorpehall.jpg
(that's not me ma' & pa')
0-5 Pinky & Perky, Sooty (yes I know he doesn't speak, but on the albums he used to be able to sing, I didn't question it at the time OK?) Apparently I used to dance around like a dervish to "Shang a Lang" by the Bay City Rollers too.
6 Bought "Portsmouth" by Mike Oldfield - first single bought, still got it, it's still crap
7 - 10 My dad was into the Sex Pistols big time, he bought me Pretty Vacant, C'mon Everybody & Something Else, but kept the stuff with swearing in to himself. Also through Dad, was into the Jam, Stranglers & Clash. Didn't have many friends at school.
11 Senior School, everyone into 2 tone, so was I - Specials, Selecter, Bodysnatchers, Beat, Madness etc etc
13 - 16 heard & bought Rappers Delight, became a B-boy, bought all the Streetsounds Electro albums, Used to make mix tapes on my dads hi-fi using the pause button to cut between tracks, then play them when we had breakin' challenges at the Fleet Centre or Tech College. Also developed an interest in early Simple Minds through a Glaswegian cousin who 'knew a friend of Charlie Burchill' "Son's & Fascination" is still one of my favourite albums.
16 - 18 Discovered girls. Discovered that most girls in the '80's liked shit music. Made some terrible mistakes because of this (went to see Simply Red/Hue & Cry/Erasure in concert, need I say more?!)
19 Blown away by my first taste of Acid House at Viva La Rock in sunny Peterborough....It would be wrong to say I've not looked back since because I still like most of the records I bought down the years (simply red/hue & cry/erasure excepted of course) and I still like stuff from any pigeon hole you'd care to mention. As the man said "'S all music innit ?"
