Got my copy yesterday, agree with what he say really, but here's my
thoughts anyway...
'Galvanise' stands head & shoulders above the rest of the album, not
least because of the involvement of Q-Tip, but I reckon the tune holds
its own too. I also like 'Hold Tight London' with its floaty female
vocal and indie guitar led feel
(yeah yeah, I know, Student Dance (c) tWiSt), and similarly ''Surface To
Air' (apart from the stupid cut up vocal at the beginning).
HOWEVER, three decent tunes do not an album make, the rest seems to be
Fatboy Slim-esque filler that didn't make it onto Dig Your Own Hole
(shudder)...'Shake Break Bounce' borrows it's acoustic guitar strum riff
direct from Amon Tobin 'Verbal' (or maybe Rachel Stevens, heh heh!) and
as for 'Close Your Eyes', it sounds like they desperately want to be
included on the soundtrack for the next Notting Hill/Bridget
Jones/Whatever chick flick Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are in next.
The tracks all mix/fade into one another, which is an interesting
concept, but one far better employed by UK-D's own alan parley with his
'Radge Tracks' CD.
All in all, it's no worse than Dig Your Own Hole, but that's not
necessarily a good thing, I reckon 2 or 3 tracks will stay on my Zen
player, but the rest will soon be deleted.
cheers,
