The Go! Team 'Thunder, Lightning, Strike'

The Go! Team "Thunder, Lightning, Strike"

Punky funky crossover. Like the slew of 1990s' women-led indie bands
should have been, but never delivered beyond the guitar angst (e.g. Le
Tigre). This is shouty girly rap on the mic, with sample-driven heavy
funk on the rhythm, wrapped up in a punk sensibility. Funny, groovy,
scratchy, funky, punky. The vibe is kind of like the KLF-spin off Disco
2000 crossed with early Salt 'n' Pepa, backed by The Meters, with Fatboy
Slim providing the off-kilter samples, and Grandmaster Flash providing
the breakbeats. Instrumentation is probably riddim guitar, bass, drums,
harmonica, air-raid siren, Akai 2000, Farfisa organ, tambourine, and
triangle. I would imagine that they are an amazing live prospect - I
will report back when I see them in early February.
