THIS IS MORE LIKE IT!

King Tubby (played by Lee Van Cleef) meet Juan Atkins (played by Omar
Sharif) late one night in a piss-stained 'elevator' in a tower block the
East End. They're stuck in there for just over an hour. They can hear
that several people have left the telly on (an old spagetti western
plays on one, adverts on another, a sci-fi B-movie on another). The
heating in the whole block is fucked, and there's a gurgling sound from
service shaft next the lift. Gunshots can be heard from the street
outside, and a car alarm can be heard in the distance. Someone is
twatting a sheet of metal in the workshop round the corner, and the
sounds of a mad evangelist screaming at no one in particular drift up
from outside the tube station.

The pills are wearing off, and Tubby and Atkins feel nervy. It's 6 am,
the müezzin has piped up, but some tit has put a marshall arts video on
at full volume, and the sound of this seeps into the aural stew.

They're stuck in a lift, going nowhere, and the only thing that keeps
them sane is a perfectly-EQed breakbeat fluttering around synths that
sound like prime Orbital. Some of the best basslines around are in there
as well, rumbling beneath the madness.

Deep, warm, free-eq-y, sampledelia.

I don't know if this is drum 'n' bass. I don't know if this is two-step.
I don't know if this is techno. I don't know if Juan's mate Derrick
would approve. I don't give a fuck. All I know is this:

This. Is. The. Business.
