a bunch of balinese local bands, theres this one local punk band
called "superman is dead" that have these really catchy songs that would
probably send the college dj's in my old hometown to indie rock heaven.
and theres this other group called telephone making cool left-center
electronica, though it's probably not startling enough to turn london on
it's ear or anything... oh, and the dangdut band at the karoke joint on
jl iman bonjol! they totally rock! dangdut is the indonesian take on
hindi film music, lots of overweight stars, and happy upbeat weirdly
orchestrated backgrounds. and it's usually very overtly sexual for some
reason. anyway the band is like this 8 piece unit with rotating
extra-sexy 40 year old diva singers, and they all wear matching 80's
style black and silver-lame outfits with metal stud bracelets. which
would be interesting enough for a night out, but they're actually quite good!
