Privacy policy
Your privacy is very important to us and we know you want us to take care of the information you give us.
- For all visitors to the UK-Dance web site, we write a cookie to the user's machine with a session identifier. For each URL retrieved from the site we store the IP address of the connecting machine, the time of that access, the URL retrieved, the URL they came from (if any), the browser they use and the session identifier. These are made use of solely to provide statistical information for the site as a whole, including tracking the volume of traffic to the site and the total number of visitors.
- For users who make use of the interactive facilities of the web site (such as contributing messages or editing their profile) and choose to save their details, we write a cookie to the user's machine storing the name of the user, their e-mail address, password and whether they want to be copied on e-mails that they send. For users who don't want to save their details, we store a blank cookie identifying this fact. The cookie is used solely for the purpose of eliminating data re-entry when using the site's interactive facilities.
- For users who choose to become a member of UK-Dance we store the user's e-mail address and the option they have chosen. For subscribers to the e-mail mailing list this is used to provide the address to which digests can be sent. For all users, this is used to check that the user is known, confirming that they have a valid e-mail address and have agreed to abide by the UK-Dance Code of Conduct. No other e-mail is sent.
- For all users who contribute discussion messages to UK-Dance, we make those messages available publicly on the web site for a period of approximately fourteen days — this may be longer if a discussion thread is still active. If a message is about a future event then its contents may be held in the event calendar until after that event takes place. If a message is suggested for inclusion in the knowledge store, then the information it contains may be held permanently on the site.
- All discussion messages are held privately by the UK-Dance Administrator as a permanent record in case of any subsequent legal proceedings or to provide users with copies of messages that they have submitted and then subsequently lost. Meta-information may also be extracted from contributed messages for the purpose of generating statistical information and value metrics for use by the web site.
- Comments to entries in the knowledge store may be held on the site permanently. Comments by people attending an event in the calendar may be held until that event takes place.
- Users who have set up a member profile will have the information they submit made available as part of that profile. No other use is made of that information and users can remove the user contributed portion of their profile at any time. If a profile is not updated for a period of six months then it will be removed from the system.
- Logs are kept for a maximum period of 4 weeks containing the e-mail addresses of users who contribute to UK-Dance, receive e-mail digests from the mailing list or carry out commands using the list server. These are used solely to analyse traffic and to resolve any possible system problems.
- No other information about users is stored by UK-Dance and no other use is made of the data described above.
You may also want to note that e-mail addresses on the UK-Dance site are encoded in such a way as to prevent easy automatic harvesting by systems collecting addresses to spam. We also ask search engines not to index our discussion pages using the robots.txt standard.
