Not so sure how one of these will improve anyone's tune selection, which is the basic yardstick, as far as I am concerned.

That's not an anti-technology comment either. The great thing I like about Serato Scratch is that whilst your tunes are playing on the vinyl, you've got your laptop or whatever screen showing you your crate, so you can surf around and find the next tune. It's not the touchscreen interface I have a problem with, but the software.

From the floor, I don't think anyone's too bothered about what format/media the DJ is using. Good tunes, played in the right order with a degree of seamlessness that doesn't distract from getting lost in the music should do it.

As a DJ, there is nothing more satisfying than physically manipulating vinyl, IMO

currently dotting the i's and crossing the t's for an artist tech rider.... that is asking for a rane TTM57SL (a scratch mixer that includes serato) ... fast emerging as "industry standard" as far as i can tell, especially in usa.

and.. it seems... that many european venues will struggle to get hold of one.... arrgghhHHHH!!!

just saying.

thing is... how much more is there to watch for the audience... there is something about the visual stimulus a DJ DJing can give you... in a purely gimmicky way I can imagine thse going down very well at pardees ;0)

Cant be cheap tho! big bugger screen like that!

can see that system going down well at a star wars convention (especially if the dj was dropping klingon voice samples over the dubstep)

.... did you notice he was using a a rane TTM57SL* ?? (a scratch mixer that includes serato)... THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING 'BOUT!!!

*could possibly have been a ttm57 as that youtube film was uploaded in feb 2008.. im not sure the 57sl existed back then... an easy mistake though... as rane's previous mixer, the TTM 56, was similar to the TTM 57SL ... the TTM 57SL is slightly bigger than the TTM 56.. the TTM 57 is 13.3"H x 10"W (33.782 cm x 25.4 cm) and the TTM 56 is 13.05"H x 9"W. (33.147 x 22.9 cm)

N E WAY!

traktor controller vs serato in the booth .. it's fooking techno war out there.

Why tf do you need a special Serato mixer when Serato will work with whatever mixer you have? Can't see the point in that (except to sell 'special' mixers to gullibles)

suppose people are getting fed up with lugging adapters and interconnects around and dealing with the stresses of work space, setting up kit and testing it pre slot etc.

it's "easier" to have stuff hard wired into the booth... this is the future imho (like it or lump it) - there is still no industry standard digital mixer in the uk .. most still spec djm 800's or 600's .. i cant see that lasting.

all this digital thing has really kicked off over the last couple of years.. erm.. only two years ago serato wasnt really "industry standard" for most on the road dj's who were still deciding what software to commit too and getting themselves set up etc.. this is changing very rapidly and i would now suggest most on the road dj's are using digital (or if it aint half ... its fooking getting closer day by day).

for example, i was recently asked to play a festival dj slot (rare for me) and <ahem> im still 100 per cent vinyl (for collecting music anyhow)... then ... i was told "sorry, there are no vinyl decks on the dj workstation".

YOU FUCKING WOT!?! (says i)

so.... im lumping decks in flight cases ... all the way up to the gig just so i can play vinyl <ffs> that would never of happened a couple of years ago.. maybe it wouldn't have happened only last year.

we are living in digital times....
