Somewhere off the beaten track in Thailand...?

Hi folks,

I spent a week in Krabi sometime ago. It was quiet and unspoiled. I loved it. Haven't been anywhere like it in a long time and haven't been back to that part of the world since the tsunami.

I'm looking for a bounty-bar type experience, small hotel, basic comforts are required.

Anyone been anywhere like that lately?

Regards,

Dermott

my friend just got back from koh phi phi a week ago, it's a quick(ish) boat ride from phuket. anyway she said it was great, not too crowded, i saw the pictures and they look amazing. it's not party central but there's definitely bars and a few people about, and she thinks there's probably a disco somewhere around the main drag as well (she wasn't really in party mode when she was there) i'd suggested the place to her sight unseen cause i kept hearing great reviews...

you might check "the thorn tree" on the lonely planet's website if you haven't already, i'm sure this question comes up a lot...

just stumbled across this in my bookmarks this morning - you couldn't ask for a more complete guide to thailand's various islands!

the "which island or beach" section is probably what you're after:

it breaks all the islands down w/regard to their strong points, hassles, current prices etc. especially helpful are the reviews of the islands beach by beach... hope this helps!

Seconded. Tezza's guides are spot on. He's a like mind. I've never directly  followed them myself, but he's been to most of the places in Thailand I've frequented over the years and his output resonates entirely with the experiences I've been lucky enough to enjoy.
