A question for you...

Wordpress... I know what it is, and what it is used for. The thing I've never quite got my head round is, why the big deal?

Everybody I know uses it now to create sites (well, nearly!)

It seemed everyone used Dreamweaver for a time.. but I havnt heard the app mentioned in years since the world went Wordpress mad ;0)

What's so good about it? Simplicity? or flexibilty? The fact that it is free? even if it is all these things.. i feel like I'm missing something about it... cannot see why the fuss.

Cheers.

It's was orginally blog software but due to it being open source more and more people wrote apps for it so now it can be used as CMS. Why the fuss? - the apps.

Like java applets all those years ago, there is loads of nonsense ones but with a bit of fannying around and drag and drop you can have a website with functionality that would be a nightmare and cost thousands to hard code.

Also unlike Dreamweaver, it produces decent enough code that Google loves.

note the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org - the former is a self-contained site where you can create/manage a blog (or with some tweaking a standard static site) as a subdomain of wordpress.com, whilst the latter is the place from where you would download the site creation/management software (as used in .com) for use in your own site and in order to have your own choice of styles/apps.
