Introducing: The Cipher

"The Cipher are a group of young liverpool artists, writers and musicians who were born out of a young writers workshop which was part of the Writing On The Wall Festival in 2007. Since then, the group have carried on working together and have since performed with the likes of Skinnyman, Bashy and Lowkey and judging by Saturday’s performance in Bumper, this lot are going places. I’d sat through a panel or two earlier on in the week and by far my favourite was the one in the Hard Day’s Night Hotel which questioned how much support the urban music scene gets in Liverpool. A fair few people in the room were saying that Liverpool has a lot of talent in the urban musical arena but it’s the rest of the music that comes out of the city that get’s promoted and talked about. On that panel was Jade Wright from The Echo and, as much as it’s not just down to her, she did promise those present that she’d look into promoting the scene more in the future and possibly introducing a regular column in The Echo for more of this music so fingers’ crossed for that happening! Personally, I’m no knowledge on the scene myself but if this is the sort of talent that’s to hand then the whole things does need shouting about! Supporting The Cipher on the night was Nicki Blaze on DJ duties and Writing On The Wall’s Mike Morris on guitar.
