I know but I can't let go.. hoping some people come back.. but only so long I can cling on ;0) c'mon.. post something.. was at Pete n Maraina a couple of weeks ago and they were saying too it'd be a shame if it was to just fizzle out... hasnt there been quiet times before? but maybe not like this.

Actually glad u said that about  the weather driving up at the end of the week and bit anxious about it.. hope the snow due for weds isnt too bad might have to cancel this trip

Aye aye alright then!  Umm... not much news here... snow has been ridiculous... melting finally today under intermittent rain and some warming, just as well as the country is well out of grit and salt.

I'm off tomorrow morning at oatcake-o'clock to California for the NAMM show, which is my big excitement.  Fixed it to go out one day early, so currently eyeballing tide and swell forecasts and figuring out how much of my wetsuit is going to be required in a Southern California January...

Hopefully there'll be some genuinely new exciting products to look at for the first time in a few years.  That Eigenharp thing looks really, really interesting, and mabye Teenage Engineering are a step closer to shipping the Operator...

Report when I get back!!

cheers,

dave

I dont know if this is a case of the grass being greener..but for an audio guy, being paid to go and see future audio products in California? Havn't u got the best job in the world? ;0)

.. and as for grit. We have shit loads in Runcorn. It was due for Germany but our Gvrmnt has secured it for our roads... so hopefully when Weds snow comes we'll be a bit better prepped (hmm!)

Well... best job in the world would be being paid to make and play your own music all the time.  But it's not bad.  1 week at NAMM and one week at the Frankfurt show are honestly the glamour highlights of the entire year though, and even that gets a bit old when the shows are in an identical place/halls every year, and mostly what you get is dramatic Windows 7 drivers, version 427 of Logic/Cubase, or another "radical" softsynth.  Stuff like the Moog Little Phatty, Eigenharp and so on are what I live for - genuinely new hardware things, but they're pretty few and far between.

And for the other 50 weeks of the year, I'm dealing with arguments from customers outside the EU as to why their countries customs charge them duty for me sending them a free of charge cable, petty arguments about why we don't support A, B, or C function, or trying to figure out why dealer Z in country P didn't get software pack H in replacement product W delivered from outsource RMA company V, and having to do this through an arcane variety of inhouse web-databases and internal teams in far-flung locations (with 1-day minimum turnaround on every 20-question email interaction) who are more interested in adhering to the letter of their procedures than getting the customer sorted.

But yes - the CA trip is the highlight, for sure.. :)

cheers,

dave
