Welcome to the new UK-Dance
The UKD software was getting increasingly old and creaky so we've now moved across to something rather more modern. It should now be easier to find new and interesting stuff and there's now a proper wiki that everyone can contribute to for keeping the good stuff.
There are some changes to the content:
– Profiles were not moved across. Once you have created an account you can create a new profile.
– Current threads were not moved across and unlike the current site will be kept forever rather than removed after 14 days (this may change in the future).
– Most entries from the knowledge section have been moved already, with the exception of some articles that were out of date or no longer seemed valuable.
– The events section has gone. This has not been that widely used and we can always bring back a version of it in the knowledge section in the future.
If there's any content from the old site that you want then let me know.
This is the thread to use if you have any questions or comments. Hopefully this will be a step towards making UKD more useful and relevant.
We're now up and running once more. Please try not to break anything too badly until I've got up tomorrow...

Brill Steve, looking great.
Was just reminiscing with the missus about how long I've been wasting time here, while she rolled her eyes and supped her vino.
Anyone wanna contribute a new banner though?
Let's face it, that one's looking a wee bit tired no?

If someone fancies doing that it would be great. It was on my list but I ran out of time and creative inspiration...
Should also mention about polls:
- You now need to be logged on to be able to vote.
- Anyone can create a poll but before they go live I need to approve them first – just so they don't clash or go completely out of hand...

"Andy" too. Ah well, always hated that name :)
I have a question about the terms of service.
"Also, do not try to sue us, because you are responsible for what you post, for what you allow others to post"
First, I don't allow others to post, the service does. But if you mean to say that I'm responsible for what other people post, how does that work? If someone posts a racist rant, are you saying that's my responsibilty or the collective responsibilty of the group?

Its intention is that if you give permission to someone else to use your account then you are responsible for what they post. You have no liability for anything else being written by other people using their own accounts. The wording could be improved, I admit.

FWIW it's the first TOS i've looked through for a long time just because of those two first paragraphs. Congratulations on Jiglu btw. I've been following it's progress for the last couple of years since you went live with AN. Thanks for UKD and thanks for the upgrade. A lot of interesting opportunities.
An observation: I posted a reply with a poll attached but it never appeared. Do the polls need to be authorised or is it a bug?
The ability to embed info from Google is a great touch, btw.

the new site looks great, stephen. thank you for your hard work and continued investment in this community. its been said before by many people, but this site has been a big part of my life over the last ten years.
the only thing i wasn't keen on is the passive aggressive tone of the terms of service. whilst i'm against "nasty things" and "nasty people" i'm not sure i like the prospect of this site being more heavily modded than before. modded boards don't have less flamewars and chaos in my experience. in fact mod decisions sometimes trigger flamewars and resentment. one of the things that is very important to me about ukd is the self moderation. thats not going to change, is it?
One thing I noticed was the member page only seems to list yourself – not sure if thats a bug? thought you might want to know.
I've just noticed the knowledge section seems massively expanded – did you go through some of the old content to pull out useful stuff? must have took you ages!

I have no intention of changing the moderation style and anyone contributing to UKD before has no reason to be concerned about the TOS changing anything.
The terms were put together by a lawyer who used to work for my company but while the intention was to make them easier to understand than most, in practice the style grates on a lot of people and they're not easily skimmable. Hopefully that will be remedied later in the summer.

It's only if you've added a member profile that you appear – some people prefer to hide so it lets them do so. If you choose the 'My preferences' link at the top of the page then the 'Member profile' option you can add in the same sort of stuff as you could on the old UKD site. You can also upload a photo there too.

No, these were all in the knowledge section of the old site but you had to click on one of the topics to find them before so I'm not sure everyone found them.

there's a list on the bottom right of the homepage – unless that's been added since your post Iain...
