Who know's a good place to buy new or second-hand flight cases (not just
for decks) in London, or by mail order?

this is where I lost all real interest...
''Eminem detests the PR bullshit and empty managerialist rhetoric of spin

that the dominant culture's dissimulations are best undermined not by the
pursuit of some 'real truth', but by the positive occupation of simulation''
the first part is clearly wrong, I've read enough about Mr Mathers to
know the above attitude is actually the work of great PR, expertly
designed to feed disenchanted teenage kids seeking rebellion and the so
called 'educated' people like the writer of this piece.

I know this has been out a while now, but the Plaid - Trainer CD on Warp
is essential listenning for most, if not everyone.. currently rocking me
through a dull-as-f**k Friday at work.

Saw Ed from Plaid a couple of weeks ago (name dropper!) and the word is
that they're working on a new album to be released on Warp soon..

But if you haven't got the Trainer Double CD/LP, then go get it (it's
listed on the Warp site) www.warprecords.com

My thoughts exactly. Mind you, you've gotta hand Dr Mark De'Rozario
points for sheer chutzpah - I don't think anyone's tried "Eminem
is the new Mark E Smith" as a defence before. The slight flaw in this
thesis is that MES is a poetic genius and Eminem, errm, isn't.

Plaid's new album, "Double Figure", is apparently gonna be released on
28th May. there's an mp3 of one of the new tracks, "Squance", in the
news section on the Warp website (http://www.warprecords.com). check it
out... it's looking good for the new lp!

I disagree. He's a poetic genius of the highest order... all the best
poets are those who are understandable, accessible, and good story
tellers... Mathers without a doubt easily fits in all three categories.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not his greatest fan or anything, but there's no
disputing the poetic content of tracks like Stan and The Real Slim Shady.

I agreed with the article in the main. To say he's 'shocking', or
anything is 'shocking' these days is a joke. Media manipulation guides all
acts of rebellion - everything is simply done to shift more units. The
only people that may be shocked by Mathers/Mansons/Whoevers antics these
days are 70 year old middle-class grandmas. What's really shocking
people ain't his antics, but his ability to manipulate the media for his
own use like that article says - but like the Dr says, that in itself
ain't nothing new either.

It's just the inevitable consequence of living in a world where
reproducible mass media, humour and a market for their combinations
exist. Spoof? Reference? Homage? Old as the hills innit.

(yes, i am now so removed from the underground i get my spotting

It's some dude called Blacksmith according to Napster, was he in

I thought Dre was the cultural pillager behind the joanna.

On a similar note I saw a sketch from E4 (that's the new entertainment
channel from Channel 4 with new Ally McBeal and Friends) where some bloke is
dressed up as him and wandering about Leeds in comedy stylings. Quite funny
if you find the idea of Mr Boink having repeated bladder problems.

I'm not disputing that there's poetic content there, I'm disputing
the notion that Eminem is even remotely in the same league as MES.
Story-telling, accessibility, popularity etc are all very well but
they are neither necessary nor sufficient conditions for genius.
What MES does with language is in a completely different order to
Eminem in terms of originality, vision and sheer visceral impact.

Are we talking about the same article here? The one I read claimed
that Eminem /is/ somehow fighting-the-power-of-the-strata (maaan).
