Never had one or tried to blag one, I'm happy enough in the back with
the cattle, there's no way I'd pay 1.5K for a better seat.
Prior to my own honeymoon, I did a bit of research and asking, putting on a suit, saying it's your honeymoon etc doesn't work anymore than if you were to ask for a car 2/3's more value than what you were paying in a dealership. Upgrades are now subject to intense data profiling and are given to frequent flyers, those collecting air miles etc as a teaser for customers that actually might buy these seats in the future.
Last flight I was on, I cashed in a load of air miles for business class, it was nice – business lounge, single malts, china plates and chairs like in the dentists but not worth any actual money out your own pocket. I used to ask for the bulkheads but that's where they put babies and infants. Now if I'm travelling with the missus, we pre book seats online either side of a row of three and hope nobody takes the middle one, usually works.
Btw, I like EMA too as it's either to EDI (football and/or piss ups) or IBZ (self explanatory)
