I'm off there soon and I'm concerned IM gonna have 2 hours of lovelyness, meeting family for the first time then 2 weeks of naff all to do.
funnily, Paul Mertons India prog was all about Amedabad last week but he chose to concertrate on the Trannies and as lovely as they were it's not really what I'm going for ... Ive jeard ahmedabad is a city and a half of loadsa of amazing magical stuff there... my parents who i am going with are rubbish at helping me find styff as they have zero interest in seeing cool stuff ;0 and the net is being a lame ass at providing me with god info..
Just wondered if anyone had happened to have been there... as always, I give Wikipedia a shot and it as always never fails to make me laugh... it called ahmedabad the Manchester of the East due to its textile industry!.. im trying to bloody get away from there ! ;0 Im know its a avery long shot but you never know someone here might've the info im after...
Hi Suddi,
I've spent some time in Ankleshwar and Surat, about 100k away - is that like saying 'I've been to Leeds' when someone asks what Manchester's like?
Out of town, looks like there's a few wildlife reserves out there, might be worth a visit, I know how fond you are of large insects ;)
Just had a look at jamburghoda (ace name) wildlife park about 60k away which claims to have leopards, but.. maybe all you get to see is the spoor.
I'd have trawl round and try to do some 'touristy' things if possible. Looks like there's some interesting relics in Ahmedabad
It's also a dry state of course, doesn't help if you *really* fancy a cold lager with condensation dripping down the bottle, but fortunately you might be able to score yourself some:
"Gujarat is the only Indian state where alcohol is prohibited. But this applies only to Indians. If you have a non-Indian passport / green card holder/ PR status, you can get an alcohol permit valid for one month by going to a liquor shop large hotel and purchasing one at their liquor shop. Hotels that have liquor shops include: Comfort Inn President Hotel at CG Road among others open from 12 noon to 8 pm Monday to Saturday ph no. +91 79 26467575.
Many local people will be able to direct you because they can purchase alcohol on a 'health' license. If you are non-resident of Gujarat, then one can get liquor permits issued at liquor shop on showing proof of travel to Ahmedabad like (1) Air/Train/Bus ticket,(2)any Identity proof by Govt. with Photo, Address & birthdate preferably drining licence and (3a)your Ahmedabad Local address proof like Residence Address of Local friend/relatives electric/telephone bill/ driving licence or (3b)Proof of stay at hotel"
