Does the positive article really make a difference?
Of course it does!. Just ask The Beatles, or The The.
Although there are the occasional confusions as to whether the band's
name has the definitive article or not (e.g. Sex Pistols). I always
remember Mani (I think) ranting on about how it was "Stone Roses" and
not "The Stone Roses", even though the singles and album certainly had
The on them.
I could rant at length about the importance of the presence or absence of the definitive article in band names. It troubled me for months when The Prodigy became Prodigy overnight. I only found out in recent years it was a mistake by the designer on the cover of Breathe that caused the 'The' to disappear.
Two recent annoyances: both (The) Gossip and (The) Arcade Fire insisting that the definitive article doesn't matter.
I've never heard that quote from Mani. I shall try to find it.
